March Book Madness

  • To celebrate Read Across America Month, we will begin our very own March Book Madness next week!
  • All books will be read during the school day.
  • Students in each class will have the opportunity to vote for which book should move on to the next round!
  • Also during this month, older students will get the chance to “Buddy Read” with younger students and teachers will invite special guest readers in throughout the month to read to students.

Grade 1 Fables & Folktales Unit

  • We wrapped up our fables and folktales unit with The Three Little Pigs, and the kids had a blast!
  • We talked about the story elements and the important lesson it teaches.
  • To put their learning into action, students teamed up to design their own strong houses.
  • They started by drawing blueprints, wrote about why their house was the best, and then built their creations.
  • Of course, we had to test them, so we tried to “blow” them down! Turns out our little builders made some pretty sturdy houses because not a single one budged.
  • I think they really got the message that hard work pays off!
