Engineering Students Show-off

Students in Intro to Engineering Design showcased their work developing/approving assistive devices at the Applied Learning Showcase in Boston.

Students in Intro to Engineering Design, a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Course, were invited to participate in the Applied Learning Showcase at the New Balance Track in Boston.  The Applied Learning Project supports schools in implementing high quality curriculum in a variety of subject areas and grade levels, including PLTW Engineering for High Schools.  Our students worked with our iExcel program to identify areas where assistive devices would be beneficial for students getting through the school day.  Engineering students then brainstormed ideas, developed their criteria for success while keeping constraints in mind and used a decision matrix to determine their best design idea, and built a testable prototype. The showcase allowed students and teachers to see work from other schools and to gain written and informal feedback from industry professionals.  This was an important opportunity for students to develop collaborative, creative, and design skills as well as to interact with other students from around the state also interested in this kind of work.
